Progress Report on Multiple Elimination and Least Squares Migration of VSP Data
نویسنده
چکیده
I predict VSP free-surface multiples and subtract them from VSP data, and then apply least squares migration (LSM) to the VSP data. The LSM image contains noticeably fewer artifacts associated with the aquisition footprints than the standard VSP image. The freesurface multiple artifact is considerably diminished in the demultipled data, and the migration image with demultiple VSP data has fewer artifact than with the original VSP data. The cost of least squares migration is negligible for VSP data imaging and LSM can significantly reduce its attendant acquisition footprint; and so these results are tentatively suggesting that LSM of VSP data should be entertained as a standard VSP processing method. Further work with both field data and synthetic data will be carried out to test this assertion. Sensitivity tests with repect to the migration velocity model will also be carried out.

Imaging blended vertical seismic profiling data using full-wavefield migration in the common-receiver domain
For vertical-seismic-profiling (VSP) measurements, the use of blended acquisition, with time-overlapping shot records, can greatly reduce the downtime and, thereby, provide large cost savings. For directly imaging blended VSP measurements, we have used full-wavefield migration (FWM). FWM is an inversion-based imaging scheme that enables us to use any kind of complex source wavefield to estimate...
متن کاملA least-squares approach for estimating integrated velocity models from multiple data types
Many exploration and drilling applications would benefit from a robust method of integrating vertical seismic profile (VSP) and seismic data to estimate interval velocity. In practice, both VSP and seismic data contain random and correlated errors, and integration methods which fail to account for both types of error encounter problems. We present a nonlinear, tomography-like least-squares algo...
متن کاملReport 1 AVO Possibilities With Least Squares Migration
Application of least-squares Kirchhoff migration (LSM) to synthetic reverse vertical seismic profile data (RVSP) demonstrates that LSM reduces the migration artifacts, improves the image resolution and produces a more accurate image than the standard migration, but cannot completely recover the model reflectivity for AVO analysis because of the limited data coverage. The influence of incomplete...
متن کامل3D wave-equation interferometric migration of VSP multiples
For VSP data, interferometric migration of free-surface multiples has two significant advantages over standard VSP migration: 1). a significantly larger imaging area than that of conventional migration of VSP primaries, and 2). less sensitivity to velocity and static errors than conventional migration of VSP multiples. In this report we validate these claims by applying wave-equation interferom...
متن کاملApplication of Recursive Least Squares to Efficient Blunder Detection in Linear Models
In many geodetic applications a large number of observations are being measured to estimate the unknown parameters. The unbiasedness property of the estimated parameters is only ensured if there is no bias (e.g. systematic effect) or falsifying observations, which are also known as outliers. One of the most important steps towards obtaining a coherent analysis for the parameter estimation is th...
